AnthoCon 2015

Somewhere in the hallowed halls of a Holiday Inn; today, yesterday and even tomorrow, a gathering occurs. Yes, that's right. Where once business class travelers, mulling over stale crescents, would meet to discuss 'projections', 'strategy', and 'new policy comprehension' for take-your-pick insurance company, there now came something completely different, something unique.
Business casual was replaced with Tales-from-the-crypt t-shirts. The saddening expressions, conveying the fact that a business get-away from the ol' ball and chain was just not the same as that ever ellusive weekend of freedom out in Vegas, were replaced with smiling faces, happy, gleaming. There was undoubtedly a twinkle in everyone's eye as the celebration for all the gorgeous lunacy our beloved genre has to offer commenced, went off without a hitch... my kind of place.
Today marked day 2 of AnthoCon and, unfortunately, due to my own scheduling issues was the only day that I could attend. AnthoCon is a place for independant authors, comic book creators, artists, and just all around fanatics in general... They/we gather, say hi to one another, and, most importantly, go home with a few goodies. I mean, where else could a guy like me get his very own signed copy of 'Vampire Dominatrix from Mars versus The Zombies of Christ' (Available on Amazon)
The highlight for me was getting to sit in on a reading by Chris Golden (www.christophergolden.com) as he previewed his forthcoming novel "Tin Men" (available for pre-order) a vivid and rich tale set in the not-to-distant future which promises to thrill any self-respecting sci-fi junkie out there.
Riot Forge (www.riotforgestudios.com) made a good showing on the floor, an ecletic booth with Jeff O'Brien (www.facebook.com/authorjeffobrien) at the helm. And there were many other great appearences, as well. All hail the Great American Nerd Fest (Horror style)
In the future, I see this con growing. Really, the sky's the limit. It was well organized, happy and friendly with a good, positive, atmosphere and, most importantly... gore, lots of gore!
